Spring Term 2025

 Science - Magna 

Class 5 had an exciting visit to Magna, where they explored the interactive exhibits on science and technology.  They learned about the power of water, air, fire and and earth through hands-on experiments and engaging displays.  We also had a thrilling workshop demonstrating forces, making the trip even more memorable. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sport - volleyball

This half term, the children in class 5 have been learning to play volley.  They have been taught three shots - the dig, the spike and the serve - and have enjoyed practising them.

World Prayer Day

For the 2025 World Day of Prayer, the service, theme and artwork were produced by women from the Cook Islands, focusing on the theme  "I Made you Wonderful" based on  Psalm 139:14

Science

This term we have been studying living things and their habitats.  In Year 6, we identified the characteristics of different types of microorganisms and investigated the conditions that cause mould to grow on bread.  In Year 5, we explored the life processes of plants and, as part of our work on the life cycle of birds, we dissected an egg. 

 

 

DT

This term, our topic has been levers and linkages.  We have designed, created and evaluated a persuasive poster with moving parts.

Marrick Priory

The children in Year 6 has a fantastic weekend at Marrick Priory, where they enjoyed a range of activities, including high ropes, low ropes, archery, canoeing, zip-wiring and abseiling.

 In our study of animals, including humans, we have explored the function of the heart and its role in the circulatory system.  Additionally, we have examined the different types of teeth and their functions.

Year 6 - Hoodies

Our Year 6 children celebrated the end of SATs with their leavers' hoodies.

In Class 5, we have started our DT project and this will continue into next half term when hopefully we will complete a piece of summer bunting!

Street Child

Our History topic is the Victorians and as part of this we are looking at a range of Victorian novels.

PSHE - First Aid workshop

During our workshop the children learned important life saving skills such as CPR and how to assist a person who is choking.  The children were actively engaged in practical activities and had a very informative and fun session.

Science - Life Science Centre

As part of Science Week the children in Class 5 visited the Life Science Centre in Newcastle.  The day was super busy with interactive activities, a planetarium show and workshop, a science theatre light show and an extreme materials workshop.  We hope you enjoy looking at the photographs of our science day.

 

 Interactive Zones - Wow 

Extreme materials workshop -  In this workshop the children were challenged to discover which materials were most suitable for building in the extreme conditions of Antarctica.   The children tested materials for their strength, insulation and absorption properties.

 

 

The Planetarium - we learnt about different constellations and even took a rocket journey to the moon.

Design Technology

 The children in class 5 have been creative making their bird hides.  They designed, constructed and camouflaged their framed structures and evaluated their final pieces of work.

Candlemas Event

Mrs Allen accompanied some Year 5 and 6 pupils to Ripon Cathedral to create their Candlemas design out of candles.

Autumn Term 2023

Science 

In our Science lessons this term we have been learning about electricity.  Using our skills and new learning we were able to make electrical cards ready for Christmas.

 

 

Advent around the World

 In Class 5 the children learnt about the Legend of the Poinsettia and how the plant links to Christmas.

Residential - Marrick Priory

 We had a fabulous weekend in the Yorkshire Dales team building and enjoying outdoor activities.  Although it was cold we all kept active, challenged ourselves and moved out of our comfort zones.  

  

 

        

    

 

 

Harry Potter day

Magic and wizardry were evident in upper school on our wonderful Harry Potter day.  The children in class 5 entered Hogwarts and had lessons in potions and herbology.  It was a great day and thank you for the wonderful costumes.

 

 

 

Class 5  learning - start of new year

 
The children in class 5 have had an exciting start to the school year.  We have had a Parliament workshop and an autistic awareness workshop.  In Geography the children modelled coastal features from playdoh.
